R Jayalakshmi, Deputy Commissioner of Police, North Zone, conducted a training camp on Sunday at Malla Reddy Gardens, Bowenpally, ahead of elections. Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) and inspectors from the north zone of the Hyderabad City Police were part of the training.

E Ramulu, advocate, gave inputs and guidelines to be followed by police personnel for all the 11 police stations in the north zone in compliance with the modelcode of conduct issued by the Election Commission of India.

Jayalakshmi directed officials of her department to take stern action against any person or candidate violating the election code of conduct. The cops were asked to regularly check vehicles and frisk suspects at main roads and sensitive areas.

“There are 104 rowdy-sheeters in the north zone who would be taken into preventive custody during elections. Wine shops, bar and restaurants should close at the stipulated time and if any violation was noticed, they would be dealt with seriously. Police should implement the election code of conduct and prohibit distribution of liquor, money and other gifts to influence voters. All inspectors should identify anti-social elements and take preventive measures to ensure smooth and peaceful conduct of elections,” said Jayalakshmi.

The DCP also stressed the impact of visible policing, surprise checking and for good liaison with the Army and paramilitary forces during checking. She added that police should be flexible and considerate to the people and leaders of political parties while discharging their duties.

Jayalakshmi appealed to all political parties to comply with the rules and regulations and take permissions for holding public meetings and gatherings.

“All the three constituencies-Secunderabad, Cantonment and Sanathnagar- would have a helpline centre established which would be headed by a nodal officer. Flying squads would monitor the situation. People can call the helpline in case they notice any violations of the election code. They may also inform the police control room on 100,” said Jayalakshmi.
