The 96 Field Regiment, Bowenpally, commemorated the 50th Raising Day of its regiment on Wednesday.

The ‘Dakshin Maitrey’ rally commenced on April 16 from Thiruvananthapuram to promote national integration and to motivate youngsters to join the Indian Army. The rally travelled more than 2,100 km to celebrate the 50th Raising Day of the 96 Field Regiment. The artillery regiment has its headquarters in Secunderabad. To mark the event, a large number of NCC cadets, children and Army personnel along with their families, undertook a marathon titled, ‘Run for Fun’ to greet the ‘Dakshin Maitrey’ rally.

Brig Krishna Raj, commander, 54 Artillery Brigade, who was the chief guest for the event, flagged off the marathon.

Lieutenant Anurag Varma, team leader of the rally, said, “We travelled through the four southern states on motorcycle, bicycle and backwater rafting and covered 2,100 km in nine days. Our team consisting of 9 Army personnel, reached out to the ex-servicemen and their kin to render all possible support.

We conducted road shows and seminars to sensitise the rural youth on the role of Indian Army and career opportunities in the armed forces.”
