Know your metro station
Know Your Hyderabad Metro Railway Station. Typically, a station consists of three levels; concourse, platform and roof. Passengers would be allowed inside the platforms only with a valid ticket but those who wish to shop could do so in the retail space. The concourse is divided into two unpaid areas and one central paid area.
In six months from now, the first phase of the Hyderabad Metro Rail will begin its journey from Nagole to Mettuguda. The 8-km stretch service, which will have seven stations, is expected to be thrown open to public in March 2015 as Ugadi gift to the people of Hyderabad. Work on the seven stations is going on at a frantic pace and test runs from Nagole to Habsiguda have been completed successfully. Here is a low-down on the metro station and what is on offer

The concourse is divided into two unpaid areas and one central paid area. The skywalks would connect the station to the street through a Foot Over Bridge (FOB).

Passenger friendly
Each station would have four staircases, two elevators and four escalators. Features such as safety strip at platform edge, directional flooring for visually impaired, emergency telephones would be installed on the six metres width platform. The platforms are provided with a slope away from the tracks to avoid accidental movement of wheelchair and prams. Ramps would be provided from the road/drop off areas to the walkway to aid people using wheelchairs.
Eco-friendly
The stations are designed in such a way that there are minimum external walls thus reducing lighting requirement. LED lighting systems with reduced power requirements and solar panels to capture power are installed in the station.
Every station has a water storage sump with a storage capacity of 1.3 lakh litres.
Automatic Fare Collection
The Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) systems would be set up on both sides of the station separating the paid and unpaid areas. HMR is also mulling the idea of introducing a single mobility card for all services. The AFC would include smart cards for weekly and monthly basis. The balance on the cards would be updated automatically and the value of the cards could be increased by transferring money online.
Station structure
Most metro stations in the world have a tunnel like look to them but the stations of Hyderabad Metro Rail are built by delinking the station box construction with entry structure construction. The station piers are located in the centre and the station is cantilevered on the single column avoiding any structural support at the side medians. There would be no obstructions to the surrounding properties.
Each coach to carry 330 passengers
On its maiden journey on Ugadi in 2015, the train would carry approximately 1,000 passengers. Seven out of the 171 coaches for 57 trains have arrived and are kept at the Uppal depot. The average speed will be 35 kmph but the trains can reach a maximum speed of 90 kmph. The air-conditioned trains would have CCTV cameras and mobile and laptop charging sockets would also be available in the coaches.

1. Main concrete structure: 140 m length x 20 m width (standard design)
2. Landings: Placement of Escalators lifts and staircases as per master plan road width (RDP) – Stations are mostly 30 m (100 ft) or 45 m (150 feet) wide to avoid/minimise land acquisition

4. Total concrete : 5000 Cum (precast & Cast in situ)
5. Stressing (of binding steel strands): Approx. 60000 metres of strands (60 km)
6. Structural steel : 230 MT
7. Roof Sheeting : 35,000 sft

9. Fire sump, Domestic sump, Fire Pump & DG Foundation at street level (1.30 lakh litres capacity – 1 lakh litres of water storage for fire safety and 30,000 litres for station requirements)
