Siddhartha Kala Peetham is organising a 3-day drama festival, which began on Friday.

Siddhartha Kala Peetham was established in 1990 to promote Indian classical music and to uplift the cultural tradition in Vijayawada. This cultural institution is functioning under the management of Siddhartha Academy of General and Technical Education, an educational society running about 20 educational institutions in and around Vijayawada.

Besides organising cultural programmes every month, eminent personalities in the fields of music, literature, arts and sports are also felicitated every year in recognition of their services to their respective fields.

Since 1990, Kala Peetham has arranged Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathak, Odissi, Kathakali, Mohini Attam, Social plays and the traditional ‘Padya Natakam’; traditional folk items from various states in India and also Andhra Pradesh like Harikatha, Tolubommalata, Chindu Bhagavatham. Literary programmes like Kavi Sammelanam, Avadhanm and Panchanga Sravanam were also arranged occasionally. Kala Peetham has also organised programmes jointly with South Zone Cultural Centres, Sahitya Academy and Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY).

‘Mother’, a play on Mother Teresa, was staged at Loyola Auditorium. Today, ‘Balanagamma’ by Surabhi would be staged and on Sunday ‘Sri Krishna Leelalu’ would be performed at Sidhartha Auditorium.

Legends from various cultural field like Dr Vempati China Satyam, Kelucharan Mahapatra, Leela Samson, Chitra Visweswaran, Sudha Rani Raghupati, Raja Reddy and Radha Reddy, U Srinivas, Unni Krishnan, Sobha Naidu, discourses by Sri Chaganti Koteswara Rao, Samavedam Shanmukha Sarma, avadhanam by Dr Medasani Mohan performed on Kala Peetham stage and were greatly appreciated by art lovers of the city.
