Protest to Regularise Contract Employees. Employees on contract services under the Telangana Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (TSSA) of the Rajiv Vidya Mission protested in large numbers at Dharna Chowk, Indira Park, on Thursday.

Employees on contract services under the Telangana Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (TSSA) of the Rajiv Vidya Mission protested in large numbers at Dharna Chowk, Indira Park, on Thursday. They were demanding to be absorbed into regular services, without putting any conditions of time limit to benefit the 10,000 contract employees who have been working for more than 2 years and less than 8 years.

Those protesting included state office contract employees, site engineers, accountants, messengers, MIS-coordinators, KGBV, CRTs, ANMs, CRPs, IERTs, DLMTs and DEO/LDAs. B Sreedhar Reddy, president of the TSSA, said, “Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is a government initiative with an effort to universalise elementary education by community-ownership of the school system as per the RTE Act. It is a response to the demand for quality education in the State and all over the country.”

“The contract employees engaged in the programme excelled in their services and achieved the mission. Unfortunately, the services of the large number of contract employees have not been regularised till date, and their job security is at stake,” he added.

The GO No 22, issued on August 13 this year, for regularising the services of the contract employees, had laid down some conditions that makes 10,000 contract employees, who have been serving for the past 8 years, ineligible. LB Nagar MLA R Krishnaiah said, “The union demands for regularisation of contract employees. I appeal to the Telangana government to regularise all the employees eligible.”

More than 5,000 women from all the 10 districts of Telangana were a part of the protest.
