Sarada Kalasamithi, one of the oldest cultural organisations in the city, celebrated its 34th anniversary at the Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao Government Music and Dance College on Tuesday.

Sarada Kalasamithi, one of the oldest cultural organisations in the city, celebrated its 34th anniversary at the Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao Government Music and Dance College on Tuesday. The Kalasamithi has been striving to preserve the verse drama since its inception as the theatre art form which is on the verge of extinction. As part of its activities, the Samithi is organising cultural programmes regularly to encourage artistes and to promote various art forms. It is also honouring renowned stage and film artistes in various fields as part of its anniversary celebrations.

To mark its 34th anniversary, the Kalasamithi presented Lifetime Achievement Awards to Chennupati Vidya, former MP; Turlapati Kutumba Rao, senior journalist; Kondavalasa Lakshman Rao, actor; Suddala Ashok Teja, lyricist; K Dharma Rao, member of Film Censor Board; Alapati Sitarama Rao, philosopher and P Kamala Prasada Rao, artist.

Harika, Nikhita, Anuja and Teja, disciples of Ghantasala Pavan Kumar, presented impressive dance recitals to mark the occasion. Mandali Buddha Prasad, deputy speaker of the assembly; Ilapuram Venkaiah, MLC; Dogiparthi Sankara Rao, founder - president of Kalasamithi; Koneru Sridhar, Mayor and others participated in celebrations.
