Of decorations invoking the spirit of Xmas

The shops selling Christmas decorations in the designated capital of the residual Andhra Pradesh are abuzz with shoppers as the festival is just a few days away.

When it comes to Christmas decorations, the Christmas tree and the star are the essentials. The tree is the cynosure of all eyes. Christmas trees of various sizes and varieties have occupied a major space in shops selling the festive decorations. Varieties include pine trees, deluxe trees that are bushy, ordinary trees that are less bushy, white trees and fibre optic trees. The height of Christmas trees range from two to eight feet. Also, there are half-foot fully decorated trees which can be placed on the office desk or on a computer table. These miniature trees are also available in the market.

The wholesale market of Christmas decorations is located in One Town in the city. In Two Town, there are many shops selling Christmas decorations. But most of them are retailers. The wholesalers and retailers have hung eye-catching Christmas decorations in front of their shops to attract shoppers.

Pankaj Jain, who owns a wholesale festive decoration shop in One Town, said, “We procure decoration stuff from many places like Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai. We are also selling Christmas decorations imported from China and the US. We also do retail business to cater to the needs of Christmas shoppers. Generally, the decoration item business in the Christmas season is equal to what we sell during the rest of the year.”

The prices of Christmas trees range from Rs 50 to Rs 1,500. The trees imported from China and the US cost more. The prices of such trees begin from Rs 2,000. Imported trees costing as high as Rs 20,000 and above are also available in the market. Fibre optic trees decorated with LED bulbs are most colourful.

A wide range of stars are available in the market. The shops also sell garlands made of a variety of materials in vibrant colours.
