Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu chose to celebrate the New Year in the city. He arrived in the city on Wednesday and participated in the New Year celebrations. He cut a cake to mark the occasion amidst his party leaders and district officials.

Naidy shared that he was keen to celebrate the New Year amidst the people of Vijayawada.

“People are going to Tirupati, my home town, to worship Lord Venkateswara as the New Year is coincided with Vaikunta Ekadasi, the most auspicious day. But, I have come here to be with my people,” he added.

As he stayed in a hotel on the busy MG Road, the Chief Minister watched the youth celebrating the turn of the year. Naidu visited Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple at Labbipet and offered his prayers. He also worshipped the presiding deity Goddess Kanakadurga atop the Indrakeeladri Hill.

The chief minister also made his maiden visit to the capital region Thulluru and addressed the farmers. Enthused at the big turnout for farmers for the celebrations and the positive signals emanating from them for land pooling, he revealed that Andhra Pradesh’s new capital will be built within three years and commissionerates and directorates would be shifted to the capital region by mid 2015.

Naidu tried to woo the farmers by quoting that his new land pooling policy would benefit them as it has been formulated after studying similar capital building adventures abroad. He also spoke of establishment of Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) office in Thulluru very soon. Its Commissioner Nagulapalli Srikanth will also be the coordinator of Tenali, Mangalagiri, Tadepalli, Guntur Municipal Corporation and Vijayawada Municipal Corporation due to the emergence of CRDA.

The chief minister then visited the Polavaram Project and interacted with the officials on the progress of works. Later in the evening, Chandrababu Naidu spent some time with the people of Chataparru village of West Godavari district. He said that the people of West Godavari district elected both the MP and MLAs from the TDP in last year’s election and his visit to the district was to thank them.
