The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) will be hosting its annual flagship event, the 15th edition of the Delhi Sustainable Development Summit (DSDS), in New Delhi from February 5 to 7.

Representatives from 35 countries, 13 heads of states (current and former), ministers and more than 90 companies along with actor-activist Arnold Schwarzenegger, Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarathi will be attending the summit.

DSDS 2015, themed on ’Sustainable Development Goals and Dealing with Climate Change’, will focus on issues related to sustainable development, environment and energy access and security, and is expected to assess worldwide progress on critical issues pertaining to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), tackling climate change, reducing our carbon footprint among other issues.

Dr RK Pachauri, director general, TERI, said, “With global developments moving towards finalisation of the SDGs and an agreement on climate change expected at the Paris Conference of the Parties at the end of 2015, there is need for a timely initiative in these areas. The summit would not only provide momentum to global developments in both these areas, but also enrich the debate through the insights and knowledge of very distinguished participants to focus on these two interlinked issues.”

A day prior to the inaugural of the summit, the crème de la crème of the business fraternity will converge at the ‘High Level Corporate Dialogue’ on February 4, to discuss ‘Delhi to Paris: Corporate Vision on Climate Change’. The deliberations there will translate into a document which will form the basis for evolving a roadmap highlighting the distinct challenges and opportunities for each issue sector and preparing a concrete corporate plan for the post-2015 development agenda.

The 11th Sustainable Development Leadership Award will also be presented at the summit. Instituted by TERI in 2005, the award felicitates global leaders for their contributions in the field of sustainable development, and for encouraging global initiatives that can lead the world towards a sustainable future.
Last year, Anand Mahindra, chairman and managing director, Mahindra & Mahindra, received the 10th Sustainable Development Leadership Award for his manifold contributions in the field of sustainable development.
