DD felicitates women achievers

The Doordarshan Mahila Sadhikaratha Awards were presented to women who showed their mettle in different fields at a function held in the city on Thursday.Garimella Mythili Venkataramana, Sai Padma, Paladugu Parvathi Devi, Revuri Indira Devi, Padala Bhudevi and Ralepalli Sudharani were awarded. Thota Jyothi, who had shown exemplary courage in donating the organs of her brain dead brother, Manikantha, was also felicitated on the occasion.

Speaking at the award presentation ceremony, former MP Chennupati Vidya said, “Women are competing with men in every field now, making their presence felt in all the spheres. While fighting for their rights, women should discharge their responsibilities efficiently. Women’s Day should be celebrated as a Humanity Day to promote compassion towards the fairer sex.” DD Deputy Director General Sailaja Suman exhorted the people to strive to end gender discrimination by enlightening the society. “‘Make it Happen’, the theme of Women’s Day, could be realised when only women were empowered through education,” she said.
