Dr NTR University of Health Sciences Vice-Chancellor Dr T Ravi Raju feels that an academic campus needs to be developed to introduce more medical courses and to carry out research programmes for the university. In an exclusive interview to CityTab, the Vice-Chancellor explained about several programmes to develop the Health University.
Is there any plan to develop an academic campus for the university?
Efforts are on to develop an academic campus to make it a full-fledged health university. At present there is no attached hospital and medical college for the university. In the long term, eight super speciality departments should be developed to get UGC assistance.
What are your priorities as the head of medical university?
We are planning to improve the quality of medical education. There is a necessity to introduce new courses to train paramedical staff as there is shortage of them in rural areas.
What about the library facilities being provided by the university?
The university has been provided the best library facilities to both the faculty and students by developing a gateway portal. Students can get information of 500 medical journals and 2,000 text books. The new system, first-of-its-kind, introduced by the university recently will benefit 40,000 medical students, 500 post graduates and 10,000 faculty members in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Anymore plans to benefit the students?
The university started digitising the data of each student and it will be helpful to gauge their performance. We have introduced online examination system for entrance examinations. Nowhere in the country there is such online examination system
Are there any facilities for continuing medical education programmes?
We have introduced video conferencing facility for interaction with medical experts of various medical colleges in both the states.
What about the role of the university in Jeevandan programme?
The state government authorised the health university to monitor the jeevandaan programme and a committee was formed to coordinate the organ donation. The programme was introduced last month. We are providing awareness among people on jeevandan programme.
