The scorching heat is giving people a tough time. But street vendors are cashing in on the people’s discomfort by hiking the prices of their stock. Fruit juices, milkshakes and coconuts offer the people some respite. Touted to be the best ways to beat the heat, these natural, refreshing and healthy liquids are preferred by young and old irrespective.

To rake in the moolah, fresh fruit juice stall owners have come out with different flavours and cocktail drinks and have hiked their prices. The cause for hike is apparently because of the expensiveness of the fruits. In the city, juice centers located at Moghalrajpuram, Mahatma Gandhi Road, Tikkle Road are a bit expensive than the juice centers at Siddhartha Nagar, Gayatrinagar, Dornakal Road, Eluru road and so on.

The average price of a mosambi juice which is usually between Rs 30 and Rs 55 is being sold at prices as high as Rs 65. While carrot juice is sold for Rs 35, this season the price has hit Rs 50. The healthier beetroot, carrot and mango are not available for less than Rs 45 and to Rs 55. Dry fruit juice which earlier was Rs 60 has risen to Rs 70. Most of the popular fruit juices like pineapple, orange and chikoo have registered a 10 per cent increase in price.

Also, there is another factor that contributes to the rise in price of the juices is the place where the juice stall is located. Fruit juice vendors have not limited themselves to one specific flavour, but have introduced combination juices, cocktails, etc. However, the commoner’s succor from the rising mercury comes at a high price.
