Exam time means a lot of preparation for students as well as their parents. While focus and concentration is the key to success, in today’s time it takes little to distract children. Exam time is challenging for children with a million distractions all around - proper diet and correct regime can help one increase the concentration.

For the same, Horlicks in association with EduMedia Research, reached out to mothers to get their perspective of their child’s concentration levels, sources of distractions and how they cope with it.The study conducted in 11 cities viz. Vijayawada, Chennai, Kolkata, Coimbatore, Madurai, Mysore, Jaipur, Indore, Ahmedabad, Mangalore and Bengaluru gains insight into a mother’s perspective of how distracted her child gets, especially during exam time.

The research also includes observations made by the mother on what these distractions are, how they affect the child and how one can overcome it.The results of the research were favorable and gave us the results which showed majority of mothers were in agreement that children today have poor concentration levels because of the distractions at their disposal compared to a few decades ago.

The mothers believe that encouragement, motivation, daily exercise, adequate nutrition and strict rules for internet can improve their child’s concentration Majority of mothers in Vijayawada, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Jaipur, and Mysore reported that the children are most distracted after 6 pm. On the other hand, majority of mothers in Indore, Coimbatore and Mangalore reported that their child is most distracted after 9 pm.

Mothers in Madurai feel that their child is most distracted between 12 noon to 3 pm. Majority of mothers in Vijayawada, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Indore, Jaipur, Mangalore and Mysore reported TV as the biggest distraction their child face.

The top two causes of poor concentration levels in kids today are distractions such as TV, internet/technology and spending too much time with friends. Mothers were of the opinion that exercise was the best way to improve their child’s concentration.
