Water at Hussainsagar Lake has hit an all time low and currently stands at 0.6 tmc as against the optimal level of 1 tmc.


The water level at the lake last year at the same time was 0.9 tmc. Almost 40 per cent of the water has been let out of the lake. On Wednesday, the work was going on at Saidanama Tomb area as huge machines were used to dig the earth to make way for the passage of water.

Meanwhile Save Our Urban Lakes (SOUL) has filed a memorandum at the National Green Tribunal, Chennai, to constitute a panel to look into the works being undertaken by the State Government. Lubna Sarwath, convenor, SOUL, said, “We have a recourse in the judiciary and are planning to knock on the doors of the High Court for contempt of court.”


Omim Debara, a member of SOUL said, “The 376 feet weir has been blasted at several spots and JCBs deployed. Already the 1,800 acres lake has been reduced to 800 acres.”
