Fighting against prejudice and determinism, be it from birth, from life’s perils, from intolerance or disrespect towards the other, leading this battle as a woman, the ‘Fate Breakers’ exhibition portrays several outstanding women in India who make a difference and empower themselves or others, against all odds.

The exhibition will feature photographs by a freelancer from Brussels Pascal Mannaerts and will be showcased from June-17 at Alliance Française Gallery. The exhibition will be inaugurated on Wednesday at 6.30 pm by Dr Sunita Krishnan. Talking about the experience of photography in India, Pascal says, “It has been over fifteen years where I travelled the world's roads regularly with my camera.

In my photographic work presented on my website www.parcheminsdailleurs.com, I am particularly interested in the human, whatever it is and wherever he is. Having gone many times to India (I am in my tenth stay in this country, the first dating from 2000), I naturally found myself confronted and was interested in many aspects of life in this country.

Wherever I am, I am always impressed with the way women in particular face the challenges imposed on them because they are women, and manage to overcome them against all odds. Going and meeting these women, getting to know them, see them in their daily fight was an extraordinary experience.”
