The University Grants Commission (UGC) has approved special assistance programme grant worth Rs 1.20 crore to Department of English at University of Hyderabad (UoH). The grant has been recommended for the department under the School of Humanities, after the status of the departments was reviewed by the UGC and upgraded it from Department of Special Assistance (DSA)-I to DSA-II.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has approved special assistance programme grant worth Rs 1.20 crore to Department of English at University of Hyderabad (UoH). The grant has been recommended for the department under the School of Humanities, after the status of the departments was reviewed by the UGC and upgraded it from Department of Special Assistance (DSA)-I to DSA-II.


Out of this Rs 50 lakh is non-recurring and Rs 70 lakh is recurring grant for a period of five years. One project fellow has also been sanctioned for this period and the thrust area of the programme is English in India: Variants & Contemporary Developments.


D. Murali Manohar, present head of the department and former coordinator says that the previous coordinators namely Prof. M Sridhar and Prof. Syed Mujerbuddin have put in lot of efforts and the assessment was made based on performance of previous projects and the present proposals submitted by the faculty from the department.Prof. Pramod K Nayar and Dr Anna Kurian are the coordinator and deputy coordinator respectively for this present programme.
