Tukaram Gate and Marredpally Police Stations organised a meeting on Tuesday to raise awareness on the installation of CCTV cameras in residential colonies, apartments and business establishments which will help detect crimes. N Prakash Reddy, DCP, North Zone, said, “There is a CCTV monitoring panel made available to the community for continuous vigil by the community itself.

The camera feeds are also made accessible to residential associations, apartments and business houses, which is linked to the concerned police station. It is the responsibility of the citizens to come forward in groups to take the initiative with the help of the police and the companies who will implement the system.”

“Mahankali Police division has installed 40 cameras and has successfully reduced the crime rate. Last year, 50 crimes were reported but after installation of the cameras, the crime rate has reduced to seven of which five cases have been solved.

It is a win-win situation for the public and police,” he added. The program was attended by about 150 people consisting businessmen, colony representatives and NGOs.
