Community Hall in Trimulgherry turns into dumping yard

With the stand-off between Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) over dumping of garbage at Turkapally, the premises of Mahatma Gandhi Community Hall in Trimulgherry has turned into a dump yard.

The standoff between the two civic bodies has been going on for months which resulted in Malkagiri MLA C Kanaka Reddy staging a protest to stop dumping of garbage being generated in SCB limits at Turkapally trench. As colonies belonging to Malkajgiri constituency were located adjacent to Turkapally dumping yard, Kanaka Reddy protested dumping of garbage there and directed the SCB to dump garbage at Jawaharnagar.

This is not to the liking of the SCB as Turkapally dumping yard is in their limits. M Devender, sanitary superintendent of SCB, fumed, “Turkapally trenching area is a notified center, spread over 18 acres and is viable and well equipped for waste management. Jawaharnagar in GHMC limits is 30 km away and is a costly affair to pay a whooping Rs 27 lakh per month to the GHMC.

Why should we do that when our own Turkapally yard is available to us in our cantonment jurisdiction? We can dump garbage at Jawaharnagar yard, if no charges are levied by the GHMC. The SCB is not responsible for colonies coming up near Turkapally.” The issue came up for discussion in the recent SCB meeting on June 16. The ward members said that the matter will be taken up with the chief minister to solve the issue.
