The Rs 820 crore project is moving at a snail’s pace. With more than 15 per cent of the length of land still to be acquired and several bridge works including the construction of new bridges, the pace of work is not moving as per the requirement say officials.

An official of RVNL says, “It is a complicated project as it is based on complete electrification. Work is going on simultaneously on all the corridors. The Moula Ali to Ghatkesar two line to four line (14 km) is a new line and the Telapur to Ramchandrapuram (4.5 km) is being restored.

Officials say that 20 per cent of the physical work has been completed and the project deadline of 2017 would be achieved.Electrification work near Safilguda Railway Station is being carried out where foundation pits have been dug up for laying masts.

The work of foundation pits for masts from Bolaram to Safilguda has been completed except for a rocky section between Ammuguda and Cavalry barracks. The Secunderabad–Malkajgiri- Dayanand Nagar section has already been electrified and another one kilometer is expected to be completed by this month end. Erecting poles, fixing over head equipments etc will take another three months.

Noor, general secretary, Suburban Train & Bus Travellers Association, Malkajgiri, says that people have been suffering for better train services for almost two decades. The few trains that are running on the Bolaram-Medchal and Falaknuma-Umdhanagar stretches are few and intermittent. Rahul, a resident of Bolarum, says, “There is an urgent need for the MMTS Phase II to be completed soon as the Metro Rail does not extend beyond Jubilee Bus stop in Secunderabad at present.”
