Vijayawada gets RMARV to attend to minor derailments

The Vijayawada Division of the South Central Railway (SCR) has commissioned a state-of-the-art Road Mobile Accident Relief Van (RMARV) recently. According to railway officials, a truck was modified into an RMARV at a cost of Rs 2.9 lakh. The RMARV stationed at the Diesel Loco Shed in the city, is equipped with basic tools, re-railing instruments and a hydraulic crane.

First aid box and emergency communication equipment are part of the RMARV which can carry 10 personnel. The vehicle is very useful to reach the spot quickly in case of minor derailment of rolling stock and restore rail traffic as the deployment of Accident Relief Train (ART) takes more time. It is handy for relief works in minor derailments within 15 to 20 km radius of railway stations and its deployment saves time and operational costs.

The RMARV and its crew are always ready to swing into action. The initiative of the Vijayawada Division has won the applause of SCR General Manager PK Srivastava who wrote to the Railway Board underlining the need for deployment of RMARVs at all important railway stations to attend minor derailments.
