Residents in and around Malkajgiri requested Malkajgiri MP Malla Reddy to take up the issue of Army road restrictions in Cantonment area with President Pranab Mukherjee who will arrive in the city today. It is reported that Malla Reddy has agreed and would be raising the issue with the President.

Malla Reddy informed that he has an appointment with the President and he would also be receiving him at the Hakimpet Airport. Srinivas of UFERWAS said that a team would also be meeting the President to put up their issue. The United Federation of Residents Welfare Associations (U-Ferwas) had earlier approached the Army officials, Secunderabad Cantonment Board and the Defence ministry to lift the road restrictions imposed by the Army.

The association met the Defence Minister and apprised him of the problems people are facing due to road restrictions. Presently, the roads are out of bounds for civilians from 10 pm to 7 am. A copy of a letter submitted to the defence minister dated January 7, 2015 is with the resident welfare associations who plan to use this and pressurise the government to take action.

“It may be noted that the Army officials are ready for alternate roads for which the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is to conduct a survey but nothing has come up,” informs a member of UFERWAS.
