Work starts but property acquisition issues remain

Will cross the bridge when we come to it seems to be the strategy of South Central Railway (SCR) with regard to the controversy ridden Road under Bridge (RuB) works at East Anandbagh. Even as the issue of the acquisition of 34 properties hangs in balance and the eviction of slum dwellers on railway property further down in Malkajgiri area stands unresolved, SCR feels that the RuB work could be started to meet the deadline.

A senior official of the SCR construction wing said that it was better to complete the work where there are no hindrance and legal issues. “The expansion of RUBs is essential for the double line connecting Moula Ali to Sanatnagar. Thus the ducking for RuB along with double line connectivity is essential,” felt the official.

B T Srinivasan, United-Federation of Resident Welfare Associations (Uferwas), says, “The Railways have cleverly started the work wherever there is railway land and there is no need for property acquisition. But there is a need for a dialogue with the residents in the area to find a solution to the land acquisition and other issues.”

“Two RuB works at East Anandbagh and Uttam Nagar is presently underway. About 30 per cent of the RuB works at Uttam Nagar has been completed. As far as the East Anandbagh RuB is concerned the role of GHMC is crucial and they need to play a proactive role,” feels, Noor, general secretary, Suburban Train and Bus Travellers Association, Malkajgiri.
