The phenomenal growth of Information Technology (IT) sector in India has not only transformed the country’s image on the global platform, but has also prompted economic growth by energizing the higher education sector especially in engineering and computer science, said T Hanuman Chowdary, Director, Centre for Telecom Management and Studies.

Delivering his talk on ‘The IT Saga of India’ organized by the Computer Science Department of PB Siddhartha College of Arts and Science here on Monday, Hanuman Chowdary said that the IT industry in last two decades played a predominant role in generating economy for the country.

About 64.4 million IT imports were registered in the country in 2014 and contributed about 7.5 per cent of India’s gross domestic product. He said that skilled youth, availability of resources and limited investments have become a boon for the country to produce high number of qualified IT professionals in the world.

The NDA government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid great emphasis over developing the IT sector in the country by giving slogans like ‘Make in India’ and ‘Digital India’. He urged students to grab opportunities coming their way for brighter career prospects.

Chowdary continued, “The Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu must take cues from Hitech City and implement similar measures for the development of the IT sector in the residual state of Andhra Pradesh.” Siddhartha College director Vemuri Babu Rao, Principal M V N Padma Rao, Computer Science department head Sridhar Kavuri and others were also present.
