Microsoft assists Kukatpally slum women
The Growth Gene Project, a skill training and community development initiative by Child Welfare and Holistic Organisation for Rural Development (CHORD), supported by Microsoft India, celebrated the graduation of their first batch of trainees in Tailoring Design and Computer Applications at the Yellammabanda slum in Kukatpally.
The Growth Gene Project, a skill training and community development initiative by Child Welfare and Holistic Organisation for Rural Development (CHORD), supported by Microsoft India, celebrated the graduation of their first batch of trainees in Tailoring Design and Computer Applications at the Yellammabanda slum in Kukatpally.
The project applies a three dimensional approach to driving change in the slum through free education of rescued child labourers, skill training and employment of uneducated young women and awareness programmes that sensitise the slum residents on the issues of child rights and gender equality.

The highlight of the project is the Growth Gene social enterprise which is a start up sewing company currently providing training and employment opportunity to fifty women in the slum. "I strongly believe that women are equally as good, if not more, as men in every field.
It is high time they are accorded the right encouragement and empowerment for the benefit of our social and economic progress. It is not negotiable anymore, it's an imperative. Growth Gene Chord believes in 'change the way you see the world, change the world you see'," said Suman Malladi, Chord Founder and Chairman.
The event was presided over by Bhavna Imran, director, marketing and communication, Microsoft IT India. 50 women graduated in tailoring and design and 25 women graduated in computer applications.
