Krishna Phase-III project

Water Board officials hopeful of completion within a fortnight

Few hiccups remain in the Rs 1,670 crore Krishna Phase-III project. It is a case of so near yet so far say officials of Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSS&B). Work has been held up at different places and in a few areas it is just about 200 metres.

At Filmnagar, work has stopped at the 800 metres stretch. Ten residents went to court and got a stay order. “We are waiting for a positive outcome. Just for ten residents 30 lakh people cannot suffer,” says G Rameshwar Rao, director, operations, HMWSS&B.

Once the work at Filmnagar is completed, Khairatabad, Serilingampally, Kukatpally and Qutbullapur areas would be benefitted. At Barkas, there are two stretches of 43 and 33 metres. A senior official of Water Board says that the residents requested for stoppage of work during the month of Ramzan. “We hope to complete the work by month end.”

The Krishna Phase III project was to be completed in June and the project was to be fully operational. The project aims at bringing 90 million gallons per day (MGD) of water to the city. The city is already receiving 45 MGD water as part of the project.
