“Hi everybody. This is my first time. I am a little nervous…please clap for me,” was what many stand-up enthusiasts chanted as they hopped on to the stage on Saturday. The occasion was Samahaara Stand-Up Night, an open mic session for upcoming and pro stand-up comedians to exhibit their talent to the world. The platform was well received by many debutants which included a Phd scholar, journalist, IT employee and even a class 11 student.

Once on the stage, the participants tried to tickle the funny bone of the audience with gags like how our share auto wallahs drive, how real estate brokers judge people, the gastric tussle between Paneer Sabzi and Andhra Pappu, the first words of Amitabh Bachchan and Arvind Kejriwal when they were born and not to forget the umpteen number of times when ‘everyone’s favourite anchor’ Arnab Goswami was invoked to spread giggles.

Needless to say, some got their act right while other amateurs were still learning the tricks of the trade. Credit goes to Samahaara for the show’s presentation where every group member swooped in with their own stand-up before inviting the first timers on the stage. The group will be staging similar shows once in a couple of months and the next event is scheduled for September.
