Rangam soothsayer blames lack of devotion for poor monsoon

The second day of the Mahankali Bonalu Jatara saw large number of devotees at the temple on Monday. The highlight of the day was Rangam, Swaroopa Rani who predicted the future. Rangam Swaroopa Rani said, “People forgot me and their devotion and commitment towards poojas and offering are reducing. People are interested in making money than worshiping the deity. The rains have stopped due to misdeeds of people.

The prosperity of the people depends on their devotion and commitment towards deity to please her and to seek blessings.” Devotees created a carnival-like atmosphere at the temple premises with drums accompanying elephants, horses and camels in the Ghatam procession, which was carried by a priest.

Many dances and feats were performed by professional pothurajus and other devathas including Banjara dance by Lambadas and dandiya dance by women. Shyamala Devi, a Jogini and well-known activist performed exacerbating dance with Lambadas. Commenting on the Jatara this year, Tallasani Sreenivasa Yadav, minister for cinematography, said, ”This year the Bonalu Jatara was a historic one as more than fifteen lakh devotees visited the temple till 6 pm on Monday and three lakh more devotees are expected to visit until Tuesday.”
