Mahbubnagar: The prestigious Palamuru Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation (PRRLI) project works are all set to begin soon. It has at last overcome all hurdles and processing of tenders has been set in motion. The Irrigation officials has already prepared a detailed project report and called for tenders under 18 packages last month.

Once the process is completed, works on the project will begin, according to Irrigation official. However, this gigantic project, which was proposed in the year 2014 faced hurdles in the form of the land acquisition. The State government targeted to acquire 17,241.25 acres of land. So far 6,384.36 acres were already acquired.

With this only about 40 per cent of land acquisition was completed. However, the government is determined to complete the acquisition of remaining land and has plans to commence the works soon. As part of this, the district Collector is holding regular reviews with the Revenue, Irrigation and Forest officials to complete process expeditiously.

Till date, the State government spent over Rs 230 crore for acquiring the lands from the farmers in the district. However, the land acquisition process is facing some hurdles. The district Collector is, however, making all efforts to ensure that the land acquisition is completed.

There were allegations of corruption creeping into the process of land acquisition. Farmers in Burgupally village under Aloor of Jadcherla Mandal alleged that a retired employee of Revenue Department had colluded with the officials in collecting “commissions” from farmers.

“We have been deprived of our on one hand, while on the other the officials are delaying the payment of compensation and no steps have been taken for our rehabilitation. We demand at least one job to each family only then we will part with our lands,” said Devija nayak of Vollur village.

Similar allegations of corruption also were made by farmers in some survey numbers under Karvena reservoir. The State government appointed a committee under Laxminaryayana, Zilla Parishad Chief Executive officer, to investigate into the matter. “We are investigating into the issue,” said Laxmi Narayana.

As part of their investigation in to the corruption cases under land acquisition, the committee members visited the areas under Karvena and interacted with farmers whose lands under Survey No. 192 during last Monday. The investigating team is also scheduled to interact with farmers in all the regions.
