Mahbubnagar: District collector Dr T K Sridevi called urged artistes community to play a vital role in widely propagating government schemes among people in rural areas. While taking part in a review meeting with the artistes from the Cultural department on Thursday at the Revenue Meeting hall, the Collector said the State government had given a special identity to the artistes.

She said the government was providing many opportunities for the folk artistes who could utilise them to lead a respectful life. In order to give wide-spread awareness on various government projects, the Collector asked the artistes to travel extensively and explain to the people the importance of various schemes and programmes taken up by the government.

Particularly, the Collector emphasised on the growing menace of female infanticide and female child discrimination in the society. In view of this, the Collector asked the lead artistes from the Cultural department to create awareness among the people about the inequalities and discrimination of male and female children and asked them to highlight the bad effects of the same in the future.

The cultural troupe was asked to spread awareness on the need of individual latrines which were being taken up under the Grama Jyothi programme by the State government. She asked the cultural troupe to design beautiful songs, dramas and plays to highlight the importance of these things to the rural folks.

The Collector also directed the cultural artists to spread awareness about the abundant resources of the district. “Many are referring the district as backward, but we need to propagate the resources we have.
In fact, Mahbubnagar is rich in many resources. The projects like PRRLI, Mission Bhagiratha, Haritha Haaram and Mission Kakatiya are all very much important that are going to become big assets for the future generations.

It is important for the people to know about them and give their support to complete them in time,” opined the Collector. Later on, the Collector conducted another review meeting on Srinidhi scheme and asked the officials to implement it without any delay. She said Srinidhi is aimed at empowering the women folk in all aspects like education, marriage and strengthen them economically.
