On the World Cancer Day (WCD) NIMS organised an awareness walk and programme at its premises on Thursday. “The global cancer epidemic is huge and is set to rise. Currently 8.2 million people die from cancer worldwide every year, out of which four million are premature deaths (aged 30 to 69 years).

Urgent action needs to be taken to raise awareness about the disease and to develop practical strategies to address the cancer burden,” said Dr Sadasivudu Gundeti. This programme took place under the tagline ‘We can. I can’ that explored on how everyone can do their part to reduce the global burden of cancer.

“Whatever you choose to do, this can make a difference in the fight against cancer,” said Dr Sadasivudu Gundeti. Dr Subash Koul, Dean, Dr MS Satyanarayana, Medical Superintendent, Dr GSN Raju, HOD of Surgical Oncology, Dr Lakshmi Srinivas, HOD of Medical Oncology, Dr Mounica, HOD of Radiation Oncology along with other doctors, staff, patients and between 250-400 people attended the event.
