Khammam: Almost 11 months after he promised to return to Khammam, the TRS chief and the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), who embarked on a two-day visit to the district on Monday, showed that he means business.
The double bedroom scheme which reaped rich harvest in the recently held Greater Hyderabad elections could well be the ‘mantra’ again for the ruling party here in Khammam Corporation polls as KCR announced that all the needy would be brought under the ambit of the scheme.
Having conquered the GHMC, where the presence of Seemandhra people is significant, the next target for the TRS is obviously Khammam where the number of Andhra migrants is more after Hyderabad. Albeit, the TRS had clinched the lone MLC seat under the Local Bodies’ Constituency recently, the party leadership is keen to have a complete sway over the region.
Since the strategic induction of Telugu Desam strongman Tummala Nageswara Rao into the party fold, the TRS’ hold in the district was grown in leaps and bounds. The two legislators B Madan Lal and Thati Venkateswarlu also bolstered the ruling party quitting YSR Congress.
Now with the notification for the Corporation elections expected to be announced on Tuesday, KCR’s visit to the district assumed a lot of importance. It may be mentioned here that Ministry of Municipal Administration on Monday announced division-wise reservations of Khammam Municipal Corporation (KMC) and Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation signaling that all is set for the civic polls.
Referring to the CM’s tour and assurances, the CPI district secretary Bagam Hemanth RaoCPI (M) district secretary Pothineni Sudarshan Rao said: “The sops he was announcing was much on expected lines when the polls are round the corner.
So far the government didn’t give any clarity on Srirama Project whether it would bring water to Palair reservoir or not.” Meanwhile, the proposed alliance between the CPI and CPM appears to have stuck in limbo. While the CPI wants Congress as well in their alliance, the CPI (M) is opposing the proposal, according to sources.
On the other hand, the TDP is in dire straits with its leaders and cadre continues to shift loyalty to the ruling party. Latest on the list is former TDP MLC Potla Nageswara Rao, who is expected to join the TRS in the presence of KCR.
It may be mentioned here that this is KCR's first visit after he attended Lord Rama's celestial wedding and inaugurated the Bhadradri Thermal Power Station on March 28. Then he promised to visit the district again in about week. But he didn't.
