Hyderabad: Top priority will be given in allotting funds for irrigation in the 2016-17 Budget, according to Minister for Irrigation T Harish Rao. All care will be taken to ensure water to crops. Harish Rao on Monday held a day-long review with officials on the status of pending, ongoing and new irrigation projects.

He instructed officials to prepare the budget proposals keeping in mind the importance of projects for growing irrigation needs. “Utmost priority should given to ongoing projects to meet the water needs in the coming agricultural seasons,” he said and added that sufficient funds would be earmarked for early completion of the projects taken up in Mahbubnagar, Karimnagar and Adilabad districts.

The Minster also conducted a detailed review on the allocation of funds for new projects – Palamuru – Rangareddy, Dindi lift irrigation scheme in Nalgonda district, Kaleshwaran barrage in Karimnagar, Tummidihatti and Chanaka – Korata in Adilabad and Tummilla lift scheme in Mahbubnagar.

Directing officials to reduce non-plan component in view of increased planned expenditure this year, he sought information on project-wise funds allocation before February 20. Special Chief Secretary ( Irrigation) S K Joshi and State Advisor (Irrigation) R Vidyasagar Rao and other top officials were present at the meeting.
