Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government realised annual energy savings of around 42 crore units in the domestic sector by distributing 57.03 lakh LED bulbs in Guntur, Anantapur, Srikakulam and West Godavari. Power consumers in these districts could save around Rs 250 to Rs 550 each in their electricity bills because of the aggressive energy conservation movement.

According to the third party preliminary survey report conducted in 57,667 households , submitted by the Andhra University and Engineering Staff College of India (ESCI), the realisation of actual annual energy savings per bulb is 73.7 units on an average as against 55.65 units projected in the estimated savings.

Expressing satisfaction over the positive results of energy savings, State Energy Secretary Ajay Jain instructed the officials to immediately set up LED bulb replacement service centres in all 175 Assembly constituencies, if necessary even in mandal headquarters also. He further said that the third party inspection report would be released by Union Energy Minister Piyush Goyal in Nellore on February 27.

Earlier, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu asked officials to work out a special mechanism to facilitate each and every household with five-star rated appliances which enables the consumers to save around 40 per cent energy as well as reducing electricity bills and protecting natural resources and environment.

On the instructions of the Chief Minister, DISCOMs have submitted proposals to the government for an additional 57 lakh LED bulbs for covering 100 per cent households. Each household would be provided two LED bulbs (9 watts) for Rs 10 each. The government targeted 2.44 crore LED bulbs distribution with an estimated savings of 1806 MU in the entire State by March 2016. (B)
