Pop-up kitchen series – that was what it was meant to be – and here was this wonderful chef Amit from the famous Teppanyaki place, the TK’s Oriental Grill at Hyatt Regency Delhi creating drama with grilled culinary wonders that are oriental, yet with a definite tinge of the Indian flavours at Oriental Bar and Kitchen, Park Hyatt.
With an easy smile and gracious ways, Chef Amit conducted an exclusive culinary session for limited people, conjuring up one Teppanyaki delight after the other. For the salad- the chicken mince was duly dumped on the grill, soy sauce, pepper etc., added and finished with sprouts - it was all done with such expert precision as the chef went ting tong with his weapons –
the two spatulas that did the entire cooking, sorting, serving and clearing the grill and lo and behold the bowls of the crunchy, mildly spicy and extremely flavourful chicken salad bowl was presented with a flourish. If watching the process doesn’t make you hungry, the first spoonful of the salad will surely enhance your taste buds, readying them for more.
The Teppanyaki sessions will be held at the oriental restaurant during dinners for limited number of diners, who are exclusively served at the live station. There will be two slots – 7pm to 9pm and 9.30pm to 11.30pm and bookings have to be made in advance. And it is worth all the trouble. A full course menu available at Rs 1400 plus taxes available in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options will include the soup –
Miso Shiru with Tofu or Shrimp, prawn and spring onions Yakitori that is grilled to a beautiful red on the grill itself; and on the main course are shredded chicken with spring onion and black sauce, sautéed tiger prawns in the delicious oriental yellow sauce and sticky vegetable fried rice.
One can safely call the dessert, Flambe chocolate tart, the show stopper. It is a spectacle to watch the entire process, from the time the chef prepares the grill for the sweet dish, arranges the tart, divided equally into considerably-sized segments and flambes and serves it with chocolate sauce.
The fantastic confluence of watching the teppanyaki dishes in the making, the sauces and spices used with such proficiency to pep up the well-conceived menu cooked entirely on the Japanese grill – well that is one gastronomic experience one mustn’t miss.
