The 63rd week of Raahgiri became a 1.2 km stage as part of the World Theatre Day celebrations on Sunday. Dramagiri took centrestage when city-based theatre group, Nishumbita performed a street play on the theme of road safety. A regular scene on traffic junctions and roads were depicted in a hilarious and thought provoking manner. Raahgirian’s gave a standing ovation after the play.

“We wanted to do something on World Theatre Day on growing traffic issues and road safety. Raahgiri came across as a perfect platform. Our group received huge support from audience and many youngsters here came and showed interest to join us, which is a welcoming moment,” said Dr Ram Mohan Holagundi, renowned theatre artiste, and the writer and director of the street play.

City-based writer, illustrator and founder of Naa Telugu Pustakaalu, Uma Kiranam also put together a small play on women empowerment. “This is my first time at Raahgiri and I am amazed by the level of people participation and energy. The best part is this moment is purely driven by people.

I felt really proud that our city has such platform,” said Ravi Bura from Telangana Chamber of Event Industry. Other events held at Raahgiri included Flashmob by BVRIT engineering college, cycling by CYKUL, Zumba by Abhimanika and Venu, fitness corner by Fitzop and street games by Naavigo.
