It is certainly not pleasant news for citizens, who are gearing up for Dasara and Bathukamma festivities two days from now.  What comes as music to the ears of these distraught people is that a business establishment has joined forces with a couple of NGOs to remove all ill-gotten litter in its endeavour to ‘prepare’ and ‘deck up’ the city for the ‘Bathukamma’ celebrations.

The streets of the twin cities present a stinking picture with trash strewn at every road following the near-catastrophic rains that wreaked havoc all over recently. The situation gets worsened by the roads to hell that one is witnessing at every thoroughfare.

The ‘clean and green’ drive was launched in the city on Thursday by Gold Drop Managing Director, Mahaveer Lohiya along with two Jeedimetla and Saroornagar-based NGOs.

Lohiya said that they would involve people from all walks of life after going about the lanes and by-lanes with awareness and educational campaigns that help inculcate the habit of having clean lakes.

“Themed ‘ShudhJal’, the initiative promotes clean water lakes. Community Pure Water, which has sizeable presence in Karimnagar and Warangal, is part of the mission,” according to its Operations Manager, Srinivas.

“We are happy to partner in this program, which extols the importance of preserving natural water bodies. With two important festivals round the corner, we need to support the program and ensure that plastic wastes do not get dumped in the lakes.

We have identified dumping grounds so that there would be no adverse impact on environment,” he said.

Taking part in the cleanliness initiative were Vaddepally Janardhan, District Manager, Telangana Tourism and Mithesh Lohiya, Director of Gold Drop, and several enthusiastic locals.
