Upto 300 Civil Engineering students will take to the streets and undertake a survey on road conditions through 600km stretch in GHMC limit as part of ‘Save Hyderabadis on Wheels’ (SHOW) on Saturday and Sunday.

Announcing the event on Friday, Surya Prakash, the brain behind SHOW said that the findings will be analysed and a detailed report about it will be submitted to the government.

“Road condition reflects the image of the city. Bad, dug up roads have become a nightmare for commuters, who have to face lot of hardship and health problems,” said Prakash.

“Monsoons, road cutting, heavy loads and poor maintenance leads to bad condition of the roads. --Maintenance and restoration of these roads is a big task. We need to find a permanent solution to see that problem doesn't recur. That is why this ‘Road Condition Survey’ has been taken up,” he said.

“Hyderabad has 9,099km of roads of which 4,173km are bitumen (BT) roads. Maintaining these costs the GHMC Rs 400 crore yearly.

We need a concrete plan to give a facelift to infrastructure in Hyderabad and Smart Warriors comprises of Civil students, services can be utilised there by giving them an opportunity to get involved in community project that is very much relevant to their studies,” said Prakash.
