Warangal Urban: A group of mechanical engineering students of Kakatiya Institute of Technology and Science, Warangal (KITSW) have fabricated a ‘line follower robot’.

The students have presented the robot they designed at national level technical competition, Technozion-2016 held at NIT Warangal and won first prize, informed the KITSW Director Y Manohar.

The student’s team called as ‘Sparkrover’ consisting five members - Samved, Shravan Aanand, Pavan Kalyan, Anurag, Sai Krishna - have spent nearly 30 days to design the robot.

They registered it online to participate in technozion'16 and were short listed among 30 teams from all over India. The team spent around Rs 2,000 for making the robot.

‘We used six sensors, two motors (300 rpm), battery, aurdino uno board, motor shield. The coding designed has been dumped into aurdino board. This programming is done in aurdino language.

This robot works automatically according to instructions already given,’ said the team members. The robotic competition at Technozion was conducted in three rounds.

Each round has different types of paths on which the robot has to move as per the instructions. Every round of the competition was a big challenge for the team, they added.

They informed that during the third round they had a problem in steering the robot on the designated path but putting their technical skills into use it was reset.

Following which the robot moved on the path without any deviation in only 50 seconds, which was a record in the history of NITW competitions.

They students’ team has received merit certificates and a cash prize of Rs 5,500. The KITW secretary and correspondent V Lakshmikantha Rao, treasurer P Narayana Reddy, Director Manohar, Principal P Venkateshwara Rao, head of the mechanical department K Eswaraiah, faculty and staff congratulated the team.
