​Bhupalpalli: In a bid to reach out to the families of underground Maoists, the Superintendent of Police R Bhaskaran offered to bear the expenses of their medical assistance from his own pocket.

Clad in civil dress and accompanied by local Officer on Special Duty (OSD) P Ravinder Rao and Eturunagaram DSP K Dakshina Murthy, he toured the Maoist-affected village Kalvapalli of Tadwai mandal in the district on Tuesday.

As part of ‘Palle dariki-Amma vodiki’ programme that aims at motivating armed naxals cadre to join mainstream, he paid a visit to the families of Maoist party Khammam-Karimnagar-Warangal (KKW) secretary Bade Chokka Rao alias Damodar and another underground naxal, Siddaboina Saramma alias Bharatamma.

Bhaskaran interacted with Damodar’s ailing brother Rama Rao, who is suffering from paralysis and confined to bed for some time, and enquired about the health condition. The SP presented a wheel chair, food grains and new clothes are presented to him.

Similarly, he spoke to Saramma’s mother Erramma and brother Shankaiah, who were also given food grains and clothes.

Apparently moved at the poor health condition of the family members of the naxals, the SP has told the local police and medical officials to provide proper medical care for them.

The SP wanted the medical officials to visit the village every month and conduct regular medical checkups to monitor health status of Rama Rao, Erramma and Shankaiah, while saying he personally would bear the expenses.

Later, the SP Bhaskaran held a brief meeting with the local youth at the village centre. He explained the youth about the various welfare measures being implemented by the government and wanted them to make proper use of such measures to and progress in their lives.

He also told the youth to actively take part in the development of the village.
