Students of ‘Wild Lens’ group from University of Hyderabad (UoH) organised a plantation drive as part of birth anniversary celebrations of Sardar Vallabhai Patel at their campus in Gachibowli on Tuesday.

The event was organised in association with the Horticulture Department. As part of the mation-wide campaign “Rastriya Ekta Sapath”, Prof P Appa Rao, Vice-Chancellor, UoH inaugurated the programme.

Around 150 guava saplings were planted at the old nursery in the campus. Among university officials Sardar Singh, Registrar, Challa Venkateswar Rao, Deputy Registrar, Horticulture Department, Security, staff and students were present.

‘Wild Lens’ is a voluntary group of 1,100 students who strive to bring biodiversity awareness by organising activities related to nature that include lake cleanliness drive, plantation at campus, against deforestation etc.

Founder of Wild Life group, Ravi Jillapalli, said, “We started a theme recently at campus which is to plant trees on every birthday either of a student or a professor.

Wherein, we started a small ‘wild lens park’ for these plantations. So, conducting this drive on a famous leader remembrance will be a better opportunity to spread the awareness is what we felt.”
