​Warangal: Drawing inspiration from the first education minister of independent India Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the Telangana government has been striving for the welfare of minorities, said MLA D Vinay Bhasker.

He lauded the services rendered by Azad to the field of education after independence. The vision set forth by him for the development of education in India is still a guiding force. Everyone should follow his ideals and teachings, the MLA said.

Vinay Bhasker took part in a programme held at the District Collectorate to celebrate Minorities Welfare Day and National Education Day marking Azad’s 128th birth anniversary on Friday. Addressing the gathering he stressed on the need to educate girl children.

Joint Collector S Dayanand said the government has introduced various programmes for the welfare and education of Muslim minorities. Special residential schools were being set up the community students.

At a programme in Kakatiya University, Registrar Prof MV Ranga Rao paid tributes to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.

Pingle Government College for Women Principal G Indira and others offered tributes to Azad and called him a great secularist and patriot whose services to education field were of great value.
