National Railway basketball championship begins
Additional General Manager of South Central Railway (SCR) AK Gupta declared open the ‘40th All India Railway Basketball Championship for Women 2016-17’, at Railway Sports Complex in Secunderabad on Friday.
Additional General Manager of South Central Railway (SCR) AK Gupta declared open the ‘40th All India Railway Basketball Championship for Women 2016-17’, at Railway Sports Complex in Secunderabad on Friday.
A total of 10 teams are competing for the championship; the inaugural match was held between SCR and North Frontier Railway.
Gupta, in his address called upon the players to exhibit true sportsmanship. He opined that Basketball is a team sport and requires unity and strength in all aspects.
He expressed that many national players have practiced at SCR’s Railway Sports Complex and have brought laurels to Indian Railways.
He conveyed his good wishes to the participating teams and expressed confidence that the teams will perform to their best.
Aruna Singh, Divisional Railway Manager, Hyderabad Division & Vice-President, SCR Sports Association, KV Siva Prasad, Chief Track Engineer and General Secretary, SCRSA were amongst officials present.
The Championship competitions will conclude on November 30.
