Nizamabad: District Collector Dr Yogitha Rana directed the officials of the horticulture, agriculture and other allied departments to take measures to set-up nurseries and grow 1.83 crore saplings under the Haritha Haaram programme to be taken up in the year 2017-18. She said that the officials should start preparing the action plans for this purpose.

Addressing the MPDOs, MROs, APOs and other officials concerned through a video conference from the Collectorate here on Tuesday, she said that the Haritha Haram programme should be taken up on a prestigious note and successfully implemented.

She said that the agricultural labourers under the MGNREGS should be entrusted with the responsibility of protecting all the saplings planted under Haritha Haaram.

These plants should be grown in 119 nurseries belonging to the Forest department and 47 nurseries under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), she added. She said that the saplings should be grown using polythene covers, sand and fertilizers.

The District Collector said that the people in the district should get used to cashless or digital transactions after demonetisation as finding hard cash has become difficult as there is scarcity of currency notes. She admitted that the people were facing some problems due to lack of cash.

She directed the officials at the village and mandal levels to submit a report to her regularly on the cashless transactions that took place.

She also stressed the need to construct individual toilets to make the district clean and tidy. Lavatories should be constructed in all the villages within the stipulated period she added.

She said that the works pertaining to MGNREGS slowed down this year when compared to that of last year and they should pick up speed.

Joint Collector A Ravinder Reddy, District Revenue Officer Prasad, Bodhan Sub-Collector S Patnaik and others were present on the occasion.
