Artist Sayyad Shaiek’s solo painting exhibition ‘Art Perspectives’ is mostly about water colour exhibits having a ‘monochrome’ touch with a tinge of brown and magenta.
There are some paintings, which bring in the rare blue colours of the sky that do not usually appear in the paintings of Sayyad Shaiek.
Sayyad’s paintings on display atc represent the landscape of rural India. At times one can also see these spaces being slowly occupied with modern buildings and factories.
The mood is very somber and the artist expresses his feelings about the dark side of development, which is bringing in a sea change in the contours of the village lands. Some water colour works show deep gorges and fissures among the land contours reflecting the damage to ‘Mother Nature’.
The vast clouds and the ‘cyclone type’ dark situation in most of the paintings seems to be representative of the struggle filled days in the life of any person, which erases with time.
Sayyad hails from Veerabhadrapeta village of Vizianagaram district in Andhra Pradesh, and has completed his BFA in painting from Andhra University and his MFA in print making from the University of Hyderabad.
His works have been a part of many National and International art shows. As a part of the initiative of ‘reform through art’ and correctional services for jail inmates, Sayyad has been training jail inmates in Chanchalguda jail in Hyderabad on behalf of Kalakriti Art Gallery.
