Hailing from Hyderabad, artist Varunika Saraf is doing her PhD in art history in JNU, Delhi. Speaking about her presentation at the art show, she shared, “We read the news everyday and we forgot it in the next day.

But when we see an image we can recollect it on seeing the second time. In this show, I am presenting the images, which regularly appear in media. In 2016 and 2017 we witnessed a lot of political issues.

My main aim is to touch the past again. When anyone sees my works here they will definitely recollect the past memories. My artworks are always related to socio-political issues.”

Kerala-based artist AD Prajesh stated that his art represents his state of mind. “In my works I have portrayed hammers. We generally use the hammer to fix something. If the hammer is bent then it reflects that I was in a pressure-cooker situation. If it is straight then it indicates that I was in a happy mood.”

Premjish Acahri, who is an art curator, says that the exhibition attempts to analyse and perhaps even salvage the role of objects in our life, by paying particular attention to their ability to evoke the past through nostalgia and memory.

“My section is “Experiential” and I was looking at objects which are becoming invisible,” he shared.

“My basic enquiry was what happens to objects in this particular world. I’m also concerned about if everything goes digital then what will happen to the objects. We always recollect our memories with objects. That’s why we titled our programme as ‘Things are vanishing before us’,” he added.
