Hanamkonda: Heedless of Deputy Chief Minister K Srihari’s warning to quit the strike, Telangana State Government Colleges Contract Lecturers Association (TSGCCLA) members have launched indefinite hunger strike here on Thursday.

The TSGCCLA Warangal Urban and Rural district leaders B Ashok, G Ganapathi, P Raji Reddy, B Shanker and P Vijay Kumar have taken up indefinite hunger strike at Ekasila Park in Hanamkonda, where they have been on relay hunger strike for the past 14 days.

BJP leader A Ashok Reddy, TDP leaders E Mallesham and A Vidyasagar Rao, Left wing leaders Waliullah Qadri, S Vasudeva Reddy, Prabhakar Reddy and others have visited the strike camp and expressed solidarity to the striking contract lecturers.

Speaking to press persons, the association Warangal Urban and Rural district unit presidents R Praveen Kumar and V Ravinder condemned the Deputy CM’s warning to the contract lecturers. Despite the authoritarian attitude of the state government the agitation would continue until the demands were fulfilled.

On the pretext of a court case, the government was delaying the regularisation of contract lecturers’ services, they alleged. The association leaders should be called for talks and immediate measures should be taken to implement 10th PRC to enhance wages of the lecturers, they demanded.

The lecturers of various government junior and degree colleges have visited the strike camp and extended their support to those who were on indefinite hunger strike. They demanded the Deput CM to withdraw show-cause notices issued to the striking lecturers.
