Kothagudem: The design for another bridge named ‘Parnashala Vanthena’ across the river Godavari, between Chinaravigudem in Manuguru mandal and Parnashala in Dummugudem mandal, has been completed and submitted to the State government that allotted huge funds for its construction.

The tender process will commence once the government approves the design. The bridge, which is going to be the longest on the river, is to be built for a distance of 7.5 km from Chinaravigudem.

It will be bigger than those in Bhadrachalam and Eturunagaram and facilitate travel in big boats through a water way.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Design for the bridge completed, sent to government
  • To cost 180 crore
  • Tender process to begin after govt approves the design

The government had initially sanctioned Rs 95 crore for the bridge, the work of which was delayed as the Godavari bank area was not found suitable for its construction. Hence the survey work got delayed.

Consequently, the officials concerned felt the need to change the design resulting in a steep hike in the cost. According to the revised plan, the cost will now be between Rs 160 and Rs 180 crore.

As the sanctioned amount of Rs 95 crore has been found to be inadequate, the proposal has again been sent to the government, which has allocated Rs 180 crore.

Once the funds are sanctioned, the plan for the construction work will be completed. Officials are also planning to take up a survey for a highway from Chinaravigudem and Manuguru.

Whether it is going to be a national or a State highway is to be known once the survey is completed. This has become a topic of discussion in Dummugudem and Manuguru mandals.

Pinapaka MLA Payam Venkateshwarlu said the bridge design has been completed. He said the need for more funds than those sanctioned earlier has been felt.

An estimate of Rs 180 crore has been prepared. Once the amount is approved, the tender process would begin.

According to the district R&B department engineering official Nageswar Reddy, the survey report on the bridge has been completed and sent to the government. The design has also been completed to suit the water way, he said.
