Hanamkonda: A tribal woman attempted suicide on the premises of Warangal Urban Collectorate in Hanamkonda on Monday, protesting against alleged negligence of the officials concerned in addressing a dispute related to assigned land.

The woman, called Boda Baathi of Purigutta Thanda hamlet under survey No: 15 of Waddepally on the outskirts of Hanamkonda, has consumed pesticide in a bid to kill herself, while Prajavani was being conducted at the Collectorate.

She was taken immediately to MGM Hospital by her relatives and her condition was said to be stable.

It was said that Baathi and her family were residing in a house at Purigutta Thanda for the last six years, as the land was allotted to them in 2011 by the then Joint Collector Vakati Karuna. 14 others were also given land at that time.

However, a person called Lavudya Srinivas Naik, a former municipal councillor, claims to be leader of Banjara Seva Sangham was harassing the woman and her family for several months demanding them to vacate the house claiming that his father Lavudya Bikya Naik owned the house, the victim alleged in a petition submitted to the District Collector during Prajavani.

Hanamkonda Tahsildar N Ravi has visited their house along with Srinivas Naik about a month ago to conduct enquiry into the matter following a petition.

But the official without conducting any enquiry also threatened the beneficiary to vacate the house and supported Srinivas Naik, the victim alleged.
On February 3, Srinvas Naik along with a gang of 40 persons attacked their house and thrown out the household goods.

“We have approached the District Collector, Tahsildar and the police in this connection, but none helped us in resolving the issue,” alleged Kumar, son of the victim and Tirupathi their relative.

Tahsildar Ravi maintained that they have probed into the matter based on the petition submitted by Bathi. The concerned parties (Boda Baathi and Lavudya Srinivas Naik) were asked to present at the office on Tuesday with their respective merits/documents related to ownership of the land and the house.

Meanwhile, District Collector Amrapali Kata has advised the officials not to show negligence in resolving the petitions submitted at Prajavani.

CPI Warangal Urban district secretary S Karunakar responding on the issue has demanded the district administration to do justice to the victim.
