Dr Lalji Singh, former Director of Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) and former Vice-Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has been selected for the ‘Distinguished Fellow’ honour by the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB).

Dr Lalji Singh, former Director of Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) and former Vice-Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has been selected for the ‘Distinguished Fellow’ honour by the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB).

SERB, which instituted the ‘Distinguished SERB Fellowship’ to support research of eminent scientists, been given in recognition of Dr Singh’s continued performance and mentorship to young researchers. The award carries an amount of Rs 60,000 per month and a research grant of Rs five lakh per year. The grant is for a period of three years and is extendable for a further two years.

The fact that future medicine is going to be personalised based on genetic makeup led Dr Singh to conceive the ‘Genome Foundation’, which is a non-profit company established in May 2004 in Hyderabad. It strives to take authentic and affordable DNA technology and other genetic diagnostic services to the underprivileged and rural populations in the country to eradicate or control genetic disorders by using screening, prenatal diagnosis and counselling.

The Genome Foundation is actively engaged in the diagnosis of Genetic disorders, research on Preventive, Predictive & Personalised medicine and training of Students in modern technologies and research.
