Hanamkonda: Deputy Chief Minister K Srihari has directed the officials concerned to make necessary arrangements to launch operations for the proposed Passport Seva Kendra at Hanamkonda head post office on Ugadi day on March 29.

The Dy.CM along with Regional Post Master General col. M Elisha, Regional Passport Officer Dr E Vishnu Vardhan Reddy, District Collector Amrapali Kata, MP P Dayakar and Mayor N Narender visited the post office to review the progress of arrangements.

Srihari asked the officials to speed up the works to meet the deadline. A large number of residents from erstwhile district go abroad to study and seek employment. The Passport Seva Kendra once launched could benefit the citizens here, he said.

A passport counter established in Warangal was closed a few years back. Besides the Regional Passport Office in Hyderabad there is only one Passport Seva Kendra in Karimnagar. As a result people from Warangal were forced to visit either Hyderabad or Karimnagar.

It was said that the Union Minister for External Affairs has planned to establish Passport Seva Kendra at important towns across the country by March 31. Following a request made by CM K Chandrashekar Rao and Dy.CM Srihari the ministry secretary agreed to set up a passport service centre here.

The regional passport officer and regional post master general visited Warangal on February 16 and inspected the offices of head post offices situated in Warangal and Hanamkonda. They decided to set up the centre in Hanamkonda after the inspection. The centre could handle about one hundred appointments every day, officials said.
